PhD Travel Grants

Thanks to our generous funders, EURO, The OR Society and ORGS (OR Groups of Scotland), we are happy to announce that a number of travel grants will be available to cover part of the travel and accommodation expenses for PhD students attending IWLS in Glasgow, as follows:
  • 5 PhD travel grants, £300 each
  • 2 PhD travel grants, £600 each
The students applying to these travel grants are required to be currently enrolled in a PhD program and already registered for the conference. Presenting in the conference is not required for applicants, so that we can allow more junior PhD students be eligible as well. However, we encourage the applicants to submit an abstract for presentation if they can. All applications should be sent to iwls2017-conf@strath.ac.uk with subject "IWLS Travel Grant Application" latest by the end of 8th June 2017. All applications must include:
  • A CV,
  • A short support letter from the PhD supervisor,
  • A short letter (max. 1 page) from the applicant discussing briefly how attending IWLS would impact their research, and including an estimate of total travel and accommodation costs.
If there are more applications than the number of travel grants available, the local organizing committee will make the final decision based on the submitted documents, and decisions will be announced before 15th June. The level of funding will be based on the expected costs of the applicant. Based on the nature of the applications received, it is at the discretion of the local organizing committee to award different number of grants to ensure the best allocation possible. The successful applicants will need to submit their original receipts for travel and accommodation for reimbursement when they are attending the conference.
