  About the conference

INCOM is a triennial symposium organized by IFAC and mainly sponsored by the IFAC Technical Committee 5.1 on Manufacturing Plant Control and co-sponsored by 11 other IFAC Technical Committees, and by IFIP, IFORS, IEEE, IMS, etc. Recent editions of the symposium were held in Salvador de Bahia (2004), Vienna (2001), Nancy (1998), Beijing (1995) and Toronto (1992).

The purpose of the 12th IFAC Symposium on INFORMATION CONTROL PROBLEMS IN MANUFACTURING (INCOM'06) was to offer a forum to present the progress in international research and development work in this field of Industrial Engineering and Computer Sciences. With a final program which consists of 24 Tracks, each comprised of 3 to 6 thematic sessions, INCOM'2006 has been one of the greatest events in manufacturing sciences and information technologies of 2006.

Special emphasis has been given to the applications of optimization methods as well as automation, information and communication technologies in the control of the manufacturing plant and the entire supply chain within the e-enterprise. The symposium has stressed the scientific challenges and issues raised by the Intelligent Manufacturing System and Supply Chain paradigms for optimization and agile digital control of the production systems. The whole product and processes life cycle has been covered, from the design, through the manufacturing and maintenance, to the distribution and service.

Scientific topics:

  • e-Solutions to Plan and to Design Manufacturing Systems

  • Facilities Planning and Materials Handling

  • Inventory Control, Production Planning and Scheduling

  • Monitoring, Diagnosis and Maintenance of Manufacturing Systems

  • Web-enabled Manufacturing Control and Wireless Automation

  • Process Modeling and Information Systems within the Extended Enterprise

  • Information Management for the Net-entreprise

  • Socio-technical and Cognitive Aspects of Automation

  • Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Modeling and Applications

  • Distributed Systems and Multi-agents Technologies

  • Discrete Event Systems Simulation in Manufacturing

  • Operational Research Applications in CAD/CAM/CAE

  • Brief introduction of Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Etienne.

The Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Etienne (ENSM.SE) is is an elite School (Grand Ecole: a sort of Ivy League School). Since 1816, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Etienne (ENSM.SE) has been producing outstanding industrial managers. Based on close links with leading French and international firms, the School is reputed to be one of the major scientific centers and a crucial hub of industrial research in France and in Europe. The school is structured around six research divisions: the Industrial Engineering and Computer Science, Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Materials Science, Microelectronics Engineering, and Engineering and Health. Because research is fundamentally linked to the raison d'être of the school, it is at the heart of the School activities. Publications, industrial contracts as well as the recognition of our expertise created the school's reputation.

Education and research are the two pillars of the success of ENSM.SE. Mission statement: respond to needs of enterprises by developing high level specialists ready to work effectively in the framework of globalization. Spirit of innovation, entrepreneurial, interdisciplinary, a high level of technical competences, flexibility and courage are the ingredients which make up our students. Living in heart of Europe, allied with best universities and institutions in the Americas and Asia, ENSM.SE finds itself poised to taken on new experiences, domains and challenges.

Under the auspices of the Ministry of Industry, the ENSM.SE is entering the 21st century with a dynamic and innovative approach. The Microelectronics Division in the new site of Gardanne (2003), and the Engineering and Health Division of Saint-Etienne (2004), recently founded, demonstrate the school's leadership in the forefront of high technology.

  • 190 anniversary of the host organization: ENSM.SE!

Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Mines de Saint-Etienne (ENSM.SE) was created by Royal decree on the 2nd of August 1816. Thus, in 2006 ENSM.SE celebrates its 190 anniversary.

  • Brief introduction of G2I Division.
The Industrial Engineering and Computer Sciences Division (G2I Division) is the former Division of Computer Sciences created in 1970. The G2I Division develops advanced methods for analysis and optimization of complex systems, in particular manufacturing. There are five main research departments in G2I: Scientific Methods for Industrial Management (MSGI), Organization and Modeling of Industrials Systems (OMSI), Networks, Information, Multi-media (RIM), Multi-Agent Systems (SMA), and Mathematical Methods and Models for Industry (3MI).

Common threads running through all of these departments are complex interactions within organizations or networks, sophisticated approaches for management and control of systems, and utilization of state of the art computer science and operational research techniques. The Division is composed of 26 professors, 29 Ph.D. candidates and 5 full time employees. G2I is both research and teaching institution, with graduate and post graduate students.

G2I is known in both French and international scientific communities, the Division has numerous world wide projects. For example, participation in European Virtual Institute on Cooperative Demand and Supply Networks (CODESNET), Scheduling in Production Systems and Supply Chain (INTAS), Inter-Organizational Workflow Management (E-ALLIANCE), Cooperation and Information Sharing in Supply Chain (COPILOTE), Collaborative Design in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (COSMOCE), Internet-Based Intelligent Tool to Support Collaborative Argumentation-Based Learning (SCALE) projects, etc. In addition, G2I has privileged relationships with the likes of ST Microelectronics, France Telecom/R&D, Schneider Electric, CEA, EDF, Elf, Total, Péchiney, Comhurex and Eurocopter.

About 40 articles in prestigious scientific journals, 75 conferences, 400000 euros of industrial contracts, 10000 teaching hours constitute "steady state" our annual quota.
